What is share of voice and how is it calculated?

Share of voice (SoV) is your share of all brand mentions in AI answers. It compares your mentions with those of every tracked brand, including yours.

SoV = your brand mentions / total brand mentions × 100

How it differs from visibility

• Visibility counts how many chats mention you. If you are mentioned in 4 of 10 chats, your visibility is 40%.
• SoV compares your mentions with competitors. If you are mentioned 4 times and a competitor 12 times, your SoV is 4 / (4 + 12) × 100 = 25%.

This is why the two can move differently. A brand that appears in few chats but is mentioned more than its competitors when it does appear can have a low visibility and a high SoV.
