Why does Brand insights show us at #1 when our Position is not 1?
Short answer: the rank in Top rankings and the Position metric usually measure two different things.
Top rankings (Brand insights)
In Brand insights, the Top rankings section shows how brands rank against each other for a dimension you choose (AI model, topic, tag, or country). With the metric control, you choose what the ranks are ordered by: Visibility, Share of Voice, Sentiment, or Position.
When ranks are ordered by Visibility, #1 means your brand appears in the highest percentage of AI responses of all tracked brands, for that dimension and your selected filters.
Position
Position is your brand's average ranking in the AI responses where it appears. If your brand is named first in an answer, that answer counts as position 1; if two other brands are named before it, position 3. Position counts every brand detected in a response, including brands you don't track. Because it is an average, it is often a decimal, and lower is better.
Why they differ
A brand can appear most often (#1 by Visibility) and still be named after other brands inside those answers (for example, Position 2.4), or the other way round. Use Visibility to see how often you show up, and Position to see how prominently.
If you order Top rankings by Position, #1 means your brand has the best average Position of the tracked brands. That can still be a number above 1.
