What is the usage percentage? Why is it over 100% for some sources?
The Used percentage you may know from the Sources page is now shown as two separate metrics on the Domains page: Retrieved and Retrieval rate. We test your prompts daily across different AI tools and track which sources they use.
Retrieved shows how often a domain appears when AI creates responses to your prompts. It is calculated by dividing the number of chats where at least one URL from the domain appeared as a source by the total number of chats we analyzed. Because it counts chats, it never goes over 100%.
Retrieval rate shows the average number of times a URL from the domain was used as a source per chat. We count individual pages, not just domains. When multiple pages from the same website appear in a single AI response, each one counts separately toward that domain's total, so the retrieval rate can be higher than 1. This is what used to show as a percentage over 100%.
Examples:
- If one page from wikipedia.org appears in 50% of responses, that domain shows a retrieval rate of 0.5.
- If two pages from wikipedia.org appear in every response, that domain shows a retrieval rate of 2.0.
- If three pages from wikipedia.org appear in 25% of responses, that domain shows a retrieval rate of 0.75.
The higher these numbers, the more valuable that source is for your tracked topics.
