The Gap Analysis helps you identify sources that mention your competitors but not your own brand. It highlights content opportunities by showing you all the domains and URLs that AI platforms use as a source, where you might be losing out because your competitors are mentioned, but you are not.
To activate the Gap Analysis, navigate to the Sources tab in your project sidebar. Switch to the Domains or URLs view, then toggle Gap Analysis on. The dashboard updates to show only sources or domains that mention your competitors but not you.
Gap Analysis reveals patterns in where competitors gain visibility:
Editorial dominance: Competitors featured in industry publications, news sites, or review platforms you're missing.
Community presence: Active mentions on Reddit, forums, or user-generated content sites.
Directory listings: Competitors appearing in software catalogs, comparison sites, or resource hubs.
Each model might also use different sources to answer the prompts you are tracking. In those cases, you can always filter by model to uncover which sources are being used by each model that are mentioning your competitors but not your brand.
By analyzing which sources repeatedly surface competitors, you can reverse-engineer their GEO success and prioritize similar placements or content.
I'm not seeing any sources or URLs when activating the feature
If you see no results with the Gap Analysis enabled, it could be because of one of the following reasons:
No competitors set up: Make sure to have at least 1 competitor added in the Brands section for the feature to work. If you do not have any, then the Gap Analysis will not display any results.
Narrow filtering: Check that the filters you are currently using are not too restrictive (especially if you have a low amount of prompts). Try broadening the date range, country, or models to get some data.
Not enough data: If you recently started a new project, you might need to wait a few days for data, such as sources and mentions, to be collected so the gap analysis can display results.
