Why does a link on Google AI Overview not count as a mention?

We track two different things in Peec AI: Brand Mentions and Sources.

Brand visibility: Your brand is explicitly mentioned in the AI response text.

Source visibility: Your domain or content was used or cited, even if your brand isn't named.

You can be visible as a source without being visible as a brand, and you can be mentioned as a brand without your website being used as a source.

In your case, Google AI Overview is using your website as a source, which means AI considers your content valuable and authoritative for that topic. Your Sources section shows this data even when your brand name doesn't appear in the response text.

Tracking both helps you spot opportunities for improvement. If you're cited often but never mentioned, it might mean your brand needs stronger name recognition. If you're mentioned often but never cited, AI might associate your name with the topic but not trust your content as a reference.
