What’s the difference between ChatGPT and ChatGPT 5 Search?

Peec AI can track both default ChatGPT and ChatGPT 5 Search (API) for your project. These are different models with distinct capabilities, and we use different methods to retrieve data from each one. ChatGPT 5 Search is available via API for our Enterprise customers.

ChatGPT

This is the default model version that users see when they access the ChatGPT interface as logged-out users (think typing chatgpt.com in an incognito browser).

We use specialized UI scraping technology to retrieve the actual reply the AI gives based on your prompt. This involves extracting data directly from the user interface to capture the model's responses and behavior.

In this scenario, ChatGPT decides which model to use and whether it performs a web search.

This model is included in every Peec AI plan by default, so you can start tracking it immediately without any additional setup.

ChatGPT 5 Search

This is the latest reasoning model from OpenAI that’s available via their API.

For this model, we retrieve information using an official API connection rather than scraping the interface. The big difference is that we can freely decide on the model used and force the API to perform a web search.

However, the results and sourcing behavior are quite different from what actual users see. We mostly recommend this model if you’re having trouble retrieving sources from the default ChatGPT model and need to get some indication of how GPT models use sources.

This model is available as an optional add-on for Enterprise customers. If you're interested in enabling ChatGPT 5 tracking for your project, please contact our support team at [email protected].
